You are:

The Senior Manager, Carrier Procurement is a critical member of the Logistics Organization and is responsible for establishing direct relationships and highly competitive pricing with carriers and courier networks to enable the effective and efficient movement of mail and parcels within the Pitney Bowes transportation network. Reporting to the Director of Network Development, you will seek to expand carrier-direct relationships with providers that will ensure the capacity to move our customers’ goods, achieve cost savings, and deliver an improved service experience for our customers.

The Senior Manager, Carrier Procurement will establish KPIs, set service level expectations (SLAs) with each carrier, and build scorecards for carrier performance management. You will work in real-time with the carriers to address performance issues, collaborating to identify root cause and implementing corrective actions that lead to improved results. You will set the long-term strategic vision for the partnership by establishing Quarterly Business Reviews to find review financial and service level performance trends, and opportunities to expansion of the partnership.

You will collaborate with Logistics Technology to ensure all carriers meet the systemic requirements to fully automate rate calculation, load tender, load accept/reject, status updating (track and trace), freight invoicing, audit and payment. You will monitor the constantly changing business and competitive landscape, ensuring that our freight is routed via the most optimized method, solving for both service performance and cost.

Finally, the Senior Manager, Carrier Procurement is responsible for modeling the company values and exemplifying the company culture.

You will:

  • Work with the Director of Network Development and the SVP of Logistics to define, communicate, and implement the vision, procedures, and short and long-term strategic objectives for all modes of transportation.

  • Establish carrier-direct relationships with national, regional and local couriers.

  • Conduct procurement exercises that result in a carrier-direct pricing model.

  • Establish KPIs and monitor service level expectations, and ensure all carriers operate within compliance and leading performance management directly with the carriers when necessary.

  • Drive improved carrier experiences through improvements in on-time pickups and delivery, reduced damaged and lost freight, and expedited issue resolution through a close partnership.

  • Serve as the liaison and subject matter expert (SME) for all modes of transportation, educating the organization and helping the Pitney Bowes sales force structure deals with new and existing customers.

  • Constantly review the evolving network to ensure that PB freight is optimized in terms of cost and performance.

  • Assist the network in carrier selection as we enter new markets and optimize the existing network.

  • Work closely with the Operations Excellence group on standard operating procedure (SOP) creation, as well as training and implementation in the field.

  • Work directly with Finance business partners, the Sr. Director of Logistics Operations, and the SVP of Logistics to define and refine budgets.

  • Serve as the champion and liaison between the carrier and the Pitney Bowes Logistics Technology group to ensure full compliance and utilization of our technology platform.

  • Challenge existing practices to drive both service and cost efficiencies within the supply network.

  • Collaborate with key internal stakeholders, 3PL partners, and transportation partners to plan and manage the logistics operation.

  • Maintain high levels of quality and customer service and serve as the escalation for all concerns related to transportation, logistics, distribution, or customer issues.

  • Build a culture of continuous improvement with planned effort in core logistics metrics such service, cost, and key foundational systems such as quality, safety, security, and sustainability.

  • Build a strong culture that is focused on a total end to end approach to optimize performance for the company.

Your background:

As a Senior Manager, Carrier Procurement, you have:

  • Undergraduate degree in Logistics, Operations Planning, Engineering, or related fields strongly preferred

  • 10-15 years' experience in logistics, transportation, and/or supply chain.

  • +10 years' experience leading carrier procurement strategies across various modes and solutions, establishing pricing, and service contracts.

  • Sterling reputation with the carrier community and a history of results for improved service levels and delivered cost savings.

  • Ability to lead development of both tactical and strategic plans to drive customer service levels, financial budgets, and cost savings initiatives.

  • Experience building a budget and/or P&L management.

  • Current knowledge of and experience with best-in-class logistics technology platforms, including TMS, YMS, APIs, and billing systems.

  • Ability to drive results through both influence and contractual means, high level of SRM experience.

  • Define metrics and cadence for effective communication with carriers.

  • Ability to drive results though influence and contractual means.

  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills, including the ability to work remotely effectively with a wide variety of people and functions.

  • Detail oriented, organized, reliable and resourceful.
